about

Helen Ho is a Chinese-Canadian writer & theatre artist from Toronto who prefers to go by her full name.

Her play, Maggie Chun’s First Love & Last Wedding, came in first place for the 2023 Toronto Fringe’s New Play Competition and first place for the 2022 UofT Spotlight Playwriting Competition. She was a 2024 runner-up for Tarragon Theatre’s Ellen Ross Stuart Award. She was also a member of the 2022 Driftwood Theatre’s Beyond-the-Bard program, the 2025 First Born Theatre’s Playwriting Roundtable, and a performer in the 2025 Queer Youth Cabaret at Soulpepper.

Currently, she is most interested in writing about: love stories, things with “outsized quirk”, young people, and social/cultural issues that both scare and fascinate her. She sometimes writes comedy, she used to write educational children’s media for TVO, and now she writes in the Playwriting program at the National Theatre School of Canada.

Some other things she loves: watching movies, the city of Toronto, walking around outside, eavesdropping, birthday cake, and nicknames (for other people).
